The Bluefin 142 has excellent tracking characteristics and the stern has a very low profile above waterline which work together to minimize weather cocking. Although all boats are effected to some degree as the wind speed increases, the Bluefin 142 remains very true to course even in higher wind conditions.

The decision whether or not to use a rudder is a somewhat personal choice. If you are prone to be in cross wind and conflicting current for longer periods, there is a real value to using a rudder since it will minimize the effort put into correction strokes and maximize the effort put into power strokes. This can be a game changer if you are paddling 20+ miles a day with a kayak full of gear. However, some paddlers choose to use a rudder for nearly every outing and that again is a personal choice.

With your level of paddling expertise, I would suggest you decide on a rudder based on your intended use and typical paddling technique. For reference, I never use a rudder and choose to use the double chined hull of the Bluefin 142 to carve turns and compensate for crosswinds rather then rely on a rudder.

We offer a 30 day return policy if you are unhappy with the Pakayak as long as it is in like new condition and returned in the original box. We would ask that you try the boat by assembling in on a carpet or cloth and testing the comfort of the seat before you head out to the water. Also, if you wish to try it in the water, be careful to place the boat in the water without scraping it on the ground and we will be able to give you a  full refund.

The Bluefin 142 is a great kayak that happens to be packable. I think that you will be very impressed with its paddling characteristics and speed.
